Looking for things to do in November? We have some great ideas for events in November below.
Halloween is over and Autumn is in full swing. It’s raining golden leaves as the trees are looking increasingly bare.
Winter and Christmas are on the horizon, the shops start filling their shelves with Christmas chocolates and everything starts to look a bit more cosy.
In the UK, the clocks have gone back 1 hour and the nights are drawing in earlier and earlier. The weather is much colder and wetter generally.
Our weekends are becoming filled with mainly indoor activities and things that don’t cost as much to do (as we save up for Christmas shopping).
So, here are 10 events in November and things to do heading into the coldest months of the year in the UK, as chosen by Tanith and Ben.
Bonfire Night / Guy Fawkes Night
Date: 5th November 2022
Location: Throughout the UK
“Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunfire treason and plot. I know of no reason why gunpowder and treason should ever be forgot.”
Probably one the most well known of the events in November in the UK – Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes night.
In the UK, the 5th of November marks the failed gunpowder plot to blow up the houses of parliament in 1605. Guy Fawkes was one of the conspirators that aimed to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic king to the throne of England.
His effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, while watching firework displays.
There isn’t a town or city in the UK that doesn’t hold a firework display on or around this night. So grab your warm clothes, get your treacle toffee ready, and go watch some fireworks.
Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday
Date: 11th November / 13th November 2022
Remembrance Day or Armistice Day marks the remembrance of those who lost their lives in the First World War.
The war ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 – hence why this date was chosen.
Globally, people choose to observe 1 minute’s silence at 11am as a gesture of respect and reflection for the fallen.
There are various events taking place throughout the UK on Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday. One of the most significant places to observe remembrance is at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
Tanith and Ben recently had the pleasure of visiting this place and will be releasing a blog post in the coming weeks about their experience.
