Warm, light summer evenings filled with barbecues and beer gardens, August is usually one of the warmest months in the UK.

We make the most of countryside walks and things you can do outside during August, because we know that Autumn is just around the corner.

So, here are 10 things to do this month as chosen by Tanith and Ben.

Yorkshire Day

Date: 1st August 2022

Location: York, Yorkshire

Okay, so it’s not strictly a singular event you can attend at the weekend but we love Yorkshire so it’s worth mentioning Yorkshire Day!

This day is a day to celebrate all things Yorkshire, when the UK’s largest county unites to indulge in vast quantities of everything that makes this county special.

This year, the City of York plays host to the official celebration day. As if you needed another excuse to visit the amazing city.

Notting Hill Carnival

Date: 27th – 29th August 2022

Location: Notting Hill, London

After two years due to Covid, the iconic Notting Hill Carnival returns to London in August Bank Holiday.

This is London’s biggest street party, where West London is filled with Caribbean colours, music and flavours.

Colourful floats and performers adorn the streets in the carnival parade, dancing to the sound of steel bands and calypso music.

From humble beginnings, the carnival has grown to become the largest street festival in Europe, attracting hundreds of thousands of people to London.

London Dessert Festival

Date: 12th – 14th August 2022

Location: Islington, London

Definitely one for us!

This festival showcases the very latest dessert brands, trends and innovations alongside all the classic favourites.

At the London Dessert Festival, you will enjoy a large range of delightful treats from trending dessert-themed brands.

London Dessert Festival presents a multisensory, immersive experience within a food festival, offering a tantalising blend of delectable delicacies and theatre.

London Craft Beer Festival

Date: 12th – 13th August 2022

Location: Tobacco Dock, London

The London Craft Beer Festival is back for its 10th year.

To celebrate, they’ve inviting some of their favourite breweries to fill up your jar.

There are 100 craft breweries from local London producers such as Hackney Church Brew Co and 25 US beer makers. There are multiple snack vendors from and cocktail makers too, so if you don’t like beer, there’s something for you too.

Your ticket includes all your beer (food and other drinks are extra) plus a festival tasting glass you can take home afterwards.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Date: 3rd – 29th August 2022

Location: Various, Edinburgh

It has become the world’s largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival features a programme of more than 53,000 performances and 3,000 shows.

Every year, thousands of performers take hundreds of stages all over Edinburgh to present shows for every taste, from theatre and comedy to dance, circus, children’s shows, opera and spoken word.

Festa Italiana, Manchester

Date: 26th – 28th August 2022

Location: Cathedral Gardens, Manchester

11am to 11pm every day and free entry – amazing!

30,000 people turned up for the 2019 edition, this year promises to be even bigger. This is a celebration of everything to do with Italian culture – the amazing food, the drinks, and lots of live music.

Birmingham Cocktail Weekend

Date: 6th-8th August 2022

Location: Birmingham

A total of 33 venues throughout Birmingham will serve up a signature cocktails as part of this boozy festival, that sounds right up our street!

The final venue list features Jewellery Quarter local legends Saint Paul’s House and some great new openings including Ikigai at 1000 Trades, Medicine at the Mailbox and The Pineapple Club.

Sounds like a heavy weekend to us.

Date: 25th – 28th August 2022

Location: Daresbury, Cheshire

This isn’t our thing really , as we like rock and metal, but Creamfields is the world’s leading electronic dance music festival. It first began in 1998 and is the original dance festival credited with providing the clubbing world with its own large outdoor event.

Creamfields is renowned for attracting the biggest names in electronic music as well as its massive production design and staging areas.

The Big Feastival

Date: 26th – 28th August 2022

Location: Alex James’ Farm, Kingham

The Big Feastival takes place on Alex James’ Cotswolds farm, located in Kingham, Oxfordshire. The event brings together music from UK artists, Michelin starred chefs, and a range of family activities.

Family entertainment is at the forefront of the Big Feastival programme. Little feastival-goers will be wowed with the promise of enchanting performances, wild workshops, crafting, meet & greets and characters meet and greets.

BrickLive in the Park

Date: 20th – 29th August 2022

Location: Battersea Park, London

A great day out for London Lego lovers with what promises to be a brick-filled extravaganza event in Battersea Park.

This family-focused event is themed around the world of the famous interlocking toy bricks. There are multiple build zones to be found, as well as giant sculptures, interactive play and hands-on building opportunities.

An interactive fun and educational day out for the whole family.
